Since early 2009 David has been working on a documentary on the history of punk in South Africa as an associate producer.

Now, based on the ten-minute promo version of the film, SPINearth.tv chose “Three Chords, Four Countries, One Revolution: Punk in Africa” as one of the 'Best of 2009: Top Ten Music Documentaries!'

Punk in Africa is a feature length documentary, to be co-produced by Meerkat Media (Johannesburg, South Africa) and Bohemian Lion Productions and Peligroso Productions (Prague, Czech Republic).

The project is currently in the research and development stage. This 5 minute teaser is intended to give a taster of what is to come and gives a small sample of the interviews, footage and material we are busy compiling...

Punk in Africa is a feature length documentary, to be co-produced by Meerkat Media (Johannesburg, South Africa) and Bohemian Lion Productions and Peligroso Productions (Prague, Czech Republic).

The project is currently in the research and development stage. The producers have begun to make contacts, conduct research regarding the four countries (South Africa, Mozambique, Namibia and Kenya) to assemble archival and audio materials and have already conducted numerous interviews with notable figures representing all different eras of the development of punk rock and related sub-cultures in Southern Africa.

This facebook page, along with the official website and myspace page, has been set up a means to collect relevant contact information and media relating to the documentary.

The documentary is broken into four parts...

1. Origins and Early History (early 1970s)
2. Punk and the Political Struggle (1976-1990)
3. International Outreach – Mozambique and Namibia
4. South Africa and Kenya Today

We are looking for audio, pictorial & video footage as well as first hand accounts of those times. If you were a part of any of these scenes or can assist in finding those who were we would love to hear from you.
